09/26/2022: Tutorials Finally Out!
There are finally some tutorials out! Installing Atmosphere CFW onto Nintendo Switch and Installing Custom Themes on CFW Nintendo Switch are the two that are available right now. Please keep in mind that I am not responsible for the changes that you make to your Switch! I have done my best to summarize official sources, but I have also linked to those sources and I recommend that you check out the official documentation instead of solely relying on my guides!
The reason I created these tutorials instead of just linking to the official sources is to hopefully help others with the information and experience that I have and to compile information from more than one official source. I want others to be able to participate in modding their consoles and making Let's Plays if they so choose, so I am including information starting with how I'm able to run homebrew. I'm using sysDVR to stream my Switch's audio and video to my computer, where I then use OBS to record it. While downloading OBS is relatively straightforward, modding a Switch is a much more involved process, so I wanted to provide a basic outline on how to do so, linking to official sources whenever possible and highlighting some cool tools that I enjoy using.
Why Now?
Well, I wanted to do something to celebrate 1,000 views, and I'm also at a point where I can't mod my Switch. I accidentally messed up my microSD card while formatting an emuNAND, and now I can't use it. Luckily, I've ordered a new SD card that should be arriving tomorrow, but as a result, I'm unable to set things up for streaming. I've been struggling with console modding these past few days, and it's really frustrating. I wanted to upgrade to a larger card that I already had on hand, but it was a fake, so I've been chasing my tail this whole time getting nothing done.
Somehow, writing the tutorial was actually pretty cathartic. I guess it's because I know the steps that I need to take, even if I can't do them right now. I'll be able to take up the task again after my doctor's appointment tomorrow, but it hurt a lot to mess up $30's worth. It's not the worst thing in the world, and no one got hurt, so I guess I'll just be grateful about that. It can always be worse; I just need to be glad it was only as bad as it was.
Today's Final Thoughts:
One bad day does not make you a failure. Hell, even a bad year doesn't make you a failure. It's just a matter of getting back on the horse when you get knocked down. It'll be tricky, and maybe the horse will even buck you right back off again, but as long as you keep trying, you'll get there. If need be, maybe find a more cooperative horse first; breaking in a bronco isn't for everyone, and you need to be aware of your limits and be kind on yourself. As always, be rootin', be tootin', and by God be shootin', but most of all, be kind.
