Pokemon Intro
CA: I started playing Pokemon around 5 years old.
CA: I learned to read in order to play the game; I had watched the anime before then, but I couldn't play the games early on, but I was obsessed with the designs and characters that I saw on the screen.
CA: While I definitely have critiques and criticisms about the series, it has been a life-long hyperfixation for me, and I'm generally grateful to be able to enjoy the creatures, games, and community.
CA: As someone neurodivergent and, as a result, generally awkward, it was a great way to start making friends when I was having a difficult time of that early in life, and I still find it a helpful scaffolding for social interaction and shared experience.
CA: I wanted to share my First Partner Pokemon that I have picked over the Generations because that's a way to show the experiences I've had over a long period of time, and it's fun to bond over picking the same character out of the same rosters!

First Partner Pokemon
CA: As you can see from my choices of First Partner Pokemon, I tend to prefer the Fire and Water Types for my first Pokemon.
CA: I have only chosen the Grass Pokemon for the last two Generations, which is an interesting trend.
CA: In Gen 1, I started with Charmander because I started with watching the anime during the Indigo League series, and I had a VHS tape that included the Attack of the Prehistoric Pokemon episode, in which Ash's Charmeleon evolves from a Charmeleon into a Charizard.
CA: In Gen 2, I started with a Cyndaquil for a similar reason; Ash had a Cyndaquil (and the other starters, Chikorita and Totodile), and I latched onto Cyndaquil as a Pokemon.
CA: In Gen 3, I wanted to start with Treecko so my rival May would have the Torchic like she did in the anime series of the time, but when I realized I was doing poorly, I swapped over to Mudkip.
CA: During Gen 4 and beyond, I wasn't able to watch the anime anymore, and so my preferences in First Partner Pokemon changed.
CA: Piplup became my First Partner because I really liked Empoleon, both due to its theming and its typing.
CA: I didn't play a lot of Gen 5, but I like Oshawott and Samurott's designs moreso than the other options.
CA: I love Froakie and Greninja, like many other people.
CA: I don't feel the need to explain why I like their design as a result; I'm just a fan of a ninja frog with a tongue scarf. It's fun!
