Spyro the Dragon Intro
CA: The way that I was introduced to the Spyro the Dragon series is a bit unconventional for most fans.
CA: I started with Spyro 2: Season of Flame on the GameBoy Advance, an isometric platformer with multiple breath weapon types, several of Spyro's friends, Ripto and his henchmen Crush and Gulp, and the progression collectible of fireflies.
CA: I think it's really interesting being a kid and seeing what games the adults around you get for you because you end up with a lot of spin-offs, non-mainline games, and games that are wildly off the mark for your interests.
CA: I remember expressing interest in Spyro after playing the PS1 demo, but I don't think that I would have asked for Season of Flame on my own.
CA: My first 3D Spyro game was the infamous Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly on the GameCube.
CA: I remember learning about the glitch where you headbutt the side of a pool of water, and then you can "swim" through the air and get out-of-bounds.
CA: As much as fans complain about this entry in the series, I think that that glitch in particular is one of the instances where I started looking at games as things that people can build rather than Mysterious Complete Packages, and I would even credit part of my interest in coding to experiences like that.
CA: Now that the Spyro Reignited Trilogy has come out, I've experienced the classic games for myself with a new coat of paint, and I absolutely see why the series is so beloved!
CA: I would say that the first game is my favorite in terms of setting, but the second one has my favorite mechanics, including swimming and climbing.
CA: I'm not the biggest fan of the non-Spyro mechanics, even if I like the characters themselves (except for Agent 9... I'm scared of monkeys), but I see why Insomniac Games would include new mechanics to keep things lively.
CA: Like many others, I hope the Reignited Trilogy means that Toys for Bob will decide to create another
CA: Then we can argue about if "Spyro 4" is Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly, Spyro: A Hero's Tail, The Legend of Spyro Series, or whatever new game would be coming out.
